West Ham are close to announcing a deadline day signing in the form of a Premier League star.

West Ham are said to be close to announcing their next deal as one player undergoes his medical. The Hammers have been busy shopping in January as they look to give themselves a chance of staying in the Premier League beyond this season.

West Ham chiefs have recognised that Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad was lacking in a number of areas, and they have recruited a number of new signings. Taty Castellanos, Felipe Pablo, Adama Traore and Keiber Lamadrid have all been snapped up, and there is at least one more to come.

The Hammers are now closing in on the signing of Chelsea defender Axel Disasi, who has been looking for a new club for some time. Disasi was frozen out at Chelsea by Enzo Maresca and forced to train sepearately from the first team.

That changed when Liam Rosenior arrived at Stamford Bridge in Maresca’s place, with the former Hull City boss welcoming Disasi back to first-team training. But with the defender not currently up to Chelsea’s standards, particularly in terms of fitness, an exit has still been deemed the best course of action.

Rosenior has said he has long been a fan of Disasi’s, but with Mamadou Sarr having been recalled from Strasbourg, Chelsea have been listening to loan offers for Disasi.

West Ham look to have won that race, with the defender now undergoing his medical ahead of his switch to the London Stadium until the end of the season, according to Sky Sports. Once the medical is complete, it will just be a case of putting pen to paper for the deal to be completed.

West Ham are expected to announce the deal well in advance of Monday’s 7pm transfer deadline, with Santo getting much-needed strength in the heart of his defence. The Hammers opened up an additional spot by sending Igor Julio back to Brighton months before his loan deal was scheduled to end.
