'My understanding is': Romano informs Everton and Tottenham who Jhon Duran is 'most likely' to…

Everton have been longing for a new striker throughout January and have shown an interest in Jhon Duran.

The Toffees have finally seen some output from their two current strikers over recent weeks.

David Moyes will have been thrilled to see Beto finally get a goal to his name at the weekend in the late draw against Brighton & Hove Albion.

There has been plenty of interest in the 28-year-old, though, with European clubs keen on signing Beto from the Blues.

It may have been left until the final days of the window, but Everton have shown interest in Duran as his future at Fenerbahce remains uncertain.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Duran is now set to join the Russian side Zenit Saint Petersburg.

“There have been several conversations, I can tell you, in the last 48 hours, with several clubs interested,” said Romano.

“My understanding is that the most likely solution at this stage is in Russia, with Zenit Saint Petersburg.

“There is a conversation ongoing between Zenit and the agents of Jhon Duran. So, at the moment, this is the most likely outcome.”

Duran did not play for Fenerbahce at the weekend amid the speculation over his future.

It would now seemingly take a sudden late change for Duran to end the day holding an Everton shirt.

Tottenham and Everton to lose out on Duran

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur were also keen to sign Duran, with their own injury issues causing late nerves in north London.

Time is running out for both clubs, with Everton likely settling for the addition of Tyrique George from Chelsea.

Former defender Lee Carsley has said George could play up front for Everton if he were needed to.

Fortunately, Everton’s strikers have been able to find their shooting boots in recent weeks.

A new striker will surely be eyed in the summer, though.
