Burnley's strongest XI as it stands ahead of transfer window closure

Burnley will hope to secure some transfer deadline day signings, but what is their current strongest line-up?

The January transfer window is about to close, and time is running out for Burnley to make any further signings.

James Ward-Prowse is the only winter arrival at Turf Moor so far, signing on loan from fellow relegation battlers West Ham United. However, 11 points from safety, winless since October and struggling at both ends of the pitch, there is no doubt that the Clarets need extra reinforcements.

Scott Parker has confirmed Burnley remain ‘definitely active’ in the market, but which positions will the club be targeting specifically? To help answer that question, a good start may be to look at Burnley’s strongest line-up so far this season, using WhoScored’s stats-backed ratings.

Only players with a minimum of 10Premier League appearances this season have been considered.

Burnley’s strongest line-up: 2025/26 Premier League

GK: Martin Dubravka (6.93)

RWB: Kyle Walker (6.52)

CB: Maxime Esteve (6.52)

CB: Hjalmar Ekdal (6.52)

CB: Axel Tuanzebe (6.46)

LWB: Quilindschy Hartman (6.63)

RM: Marcus Edwards (6.42)

CM: Josh Cullen (6.68)

CM: Florentino Luis (6.62)

LM: Jaidon Anthony (6.54)

ST: Zian Flemming (6.51)

There are few surprises in the above XI. Martin Dubravka has been among the best goalkeepers in the Premier League this season and without him, the Clarets would have been firmly dead and buried already.

While they’ve slowed down more recently, Jaidon Anthony and Quilindschy Hartman were important sources of goals and assists, respectively, during the early part of the season. Meanwhile, Josh Cullen and Florentino Luis have been solid in midfield, while Zian Flemming enjoyed a purple patch in front of goal over the winter and probably should have more than eight starts and 666 minutes under his belt.

Perhaps the biggest surprise in the team is Marcus Edwards’ inclusion. However, the former Sporting CP man has registered a goal and two assists in his last seven appearances, while it is also a reflection of just how much Burnley have misfired in the final third.

With Cullen injured long-term, Burnley fans will hope to see Ward-Prowse work his way into this team with some set-piece magic between now and the end of the season, while big improvements are needed from the likes of Armando Broja and Lesley Ugochukwu, considering the money that was spent on them.
