The January transfer window is less than three hours away from slamming shut, leaving clubs scrambling around to secure any last-minute deals.

The Premier League transfer window closes at 7pm on Monday, with clubs able to submit a deal sheet before that time to allow them an additional two hours to complete necessary paperwork to get any remaining transfers over the line.

It’s been a busy day across the Premier League, with Arsenal pursuing four possible transfers before the deadline. Liverpool are aiming to secure a £60million signing while Manchester United continue to monitor the market for any late opportunities to bolster Michael Carrick’s squad. With the deadline fast approaching, here are the deals that could be done before the window slams shut.

Mikel Arteta has been incredibly open in his plea for Arsenal to make a signing before the deadline after he confirmed Mikel Merino would be sidelined for months due to requiring surgery on a foot injury.

Arsenal made a shock attempt to sign Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali earlier in the day, but Newcastle are incredibly reluctant to sell. They are also pursuing a move to sign 18-year-old Hearts striker James Wilson and St Mirren youngster Evan Mooney.

The Gunners are also keeping tabs on Julian Alvarez, potentially more likely ahead of a summer move, with Atletico Madrid set to sign Ademola Lookman.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are closing in on the signing of 20-year-old Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet in a £60million move. However, if the deal is completed the Frenchman will arrive in the summer, not before the deadline.

In terms of outgoings, it’s unlikely that any first-team players, including Andy Robertson, Federico Chiesa, Curtis Jones and Joe Gomez, who have all been linked with leaving Anfield, will make a deadline day move.

It was reported over the weekend that the Reds approached RB Leipzig to take over versatile right-back Lutsharel Geertruida, but the deal could not be agreed with Sunderland to take over his loan. Leaving the deal dead.

Over at Old Trafford, Manchester United have been incredibly reluctant to get involved in the January transfer window, with the club targeting long-term summer arrivals as opposed to a mid-season arrival. However, it was claimed United were looking in the market for a bargain option in midfield.

Opportunities to secure a late addition aren’t off the table, with it looking like departures are the order of business at Old Trafford.

U21 captain Jacob Devaney is likely to join St Mirren on loan while James Scanlon is lined up for a short-term switch to Swindon Town. However, Tyrell Malacia saw a proposed move to Turkey blocked by Jason Wilcox after Patrick Dorgu’s injury will leave the Dane sidelined for 10 weeks.

Elsewhere in London, Chelsea have been licking their wounds after missing out on Jacquet, and appear unlikely to pursue any other arrivals. David Datro Fofana is close to joining Strasbourg on loan while Axel Disasi looks to secure a loan move to West Ham.

Jean-Philippe Mateta

Despite Thomas Frank’s struggles, Tottenham are currently looking unlikely to make a sizeable acquisition on deadline day, but have joined the race to challenge Arsenal for Hearts striker Wilson. Reports from Italy also suggest Juventus could look to take over Randal Kolo Muani’s loan from PSG.

The busiest club of the day, as usual on deadline day, Crystal Palace are closing in on a club-record signing of Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolves in a £48m deal. The Eagles are also considering a move for Everton’s Dwight McNeil.

It appeared the Norwegian would replace Jean-Philippe Mateta, but the Frenchman’s proposed move to AC Milan has fallen through after he failed a medical – leaving him in limbo in the final hours of the day.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest continue to test Celtic's resolve as they consider launching a third bid for Arne Engels. Kalvin Phillips looks set to join Championship side Sheffield United on loan, and Middlesbrough rejected a bid from Nottingham Forest for Hayden Hackney.
