Everton tipped as landing spot for £40m striker on transfer deadline day

Everton have been exploring the market for a new striker all winter.

For most of the January transfer window, Everton have been on the lookout for a number nine to help Thierno Barry and Beto.

The Toffees did submit a proposal to sign Youssef En-Nesyri, but that deal failed to advance, and now the Morocco international is in talks to join Al-Ittihad.

With just hours remaining in the window, it looks as though Everton will have to wait until the summer to recruit another forward.

Although, they’ve just been tipped as a potential landing spot for a very prolific frontman playing overseas.

If you could sign one player, who would it be Everton fans? 🤩

Everton tipped as potential landing spot for Ivan Toney

Everton have been linked with a move for Ivan Toney for much of the transfer window after his productive season in Saudi Arabia.

Toney is actually the top scorer in Saudi with 18 goals in 17 games, one more than Cristiano Ronaldo has managed.

That said, speaking on Sky Sports, Clinton Morrison has just tipped Everton as a potential destination for the former Brentford talisman.

“Yeah, no one can afford his wages over here. He’s on massive money out there. No one in the Premier League can compete with his wages,” Morrison explained.

“I did think maybe he could have a loan to a club, maybe like an Everton, or, you know, and there was talk of West Ham United before they signed a striker.

“But yeah, I think if he went to somewhere like Everton, I think it would be a good signing for someone like Everton.

“But he’s on massive wages over there, so no one can afford to bring him back here unless it’s a loan. But that’s the only reason at the moment. But no, it won’t be a permanent move.”

Everton appear to be placing their full trust in Thierno Barry

It looked like a near certainty that Everton would be signing a striker this month, considering it was Moyes’ reported priority.

However, the rise in form of Thierno Barry has clearly changed those plans – the Frenchman has netted four goals in his last six outings.

What players would you be happy to see Everton sell before Monday’s deadline? 👋

The Toffees manager is evidently happy to place his trust in Barry for the remainder of the season, and perhaps reassess in the summer if he needs more help.

Moyes has noticed a change in Barry’s confidence around Finch Farm lately, noting that he’s now beginning to shout and come out of his shell more.

Beto has also notched a couple of goals lately, so there is certainly good reason to cancel the search for a new striker, at least for now.
