European giants eyeing late swoop for “dynamic” West Ham defender

January has been a testing month for West Ham United.

While the Hammers have brought several new faces through the door — including attacking additions like Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe — there remains a feeling that the squad still lacks the proven quality needed to drag the club clear of danger.

That sense of frustration has only been amplified by the departure of Lucas Paquetá, a player many viewed as the heartbeat of the side.

And as deadline day approaches its conclusion, it appears the upheaval may not be over just yet, with fresh interest emerging in one of the club’s brightest young prospects.

West Ham academy defender Emeka Adiele is attracting attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, according to Standard journalist Sam Tabuteau.

The report claims that both Borussia Dortmund and Juventus are monitoring the 18-year-old’s situation, with the left-back understood to be weighing up his long-term future at the London Stadium.

Despite featuring regularly at Premier League 2 level, Adiele is believed to be keen on a clearer pathway into senior football — something that could tempt him to explore options abroad.

An England Under-18 international, who is also eligible to represent Nigeria, Adiele is still waiting to make his first-team breakthrough for the Hammers.

Described as “dynamic” by Academy Manager Kenny Brown, the teenager has been part of West Ham’s setup since Under-9s level and is very much a product of the club’s famed academy.

Adiele signed his first professional contract in 2024 and has continued to impress for both the Under-18s and Under-21s, standing out for his pace, athleticism and attacking output from full-back.

West Ham have long taken pride in developing elite young talent, but keeping hold of it has often proved difficult.

With Dortmund and Juventus circling, the Hammers may soon face a decision over Adiele’s future — one that balances immediate survival with the risk of losing another homegrown gem before he’s even had the chance to shine in claret and blue.
