Leeds United secure deadline day deal for Manchester United star

Edward Ibrovic-Fletcher

These past few days have not been great for Leeds United fans. The Whites are coming back off a brutal result at home on Saturday.

Leeds lost at Elland Road for the first time since December, and were well beaten by Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side. Daniel Farke’s men were put to the sword, conceding four goals on Saturday afternoon. Many will be surprised at how the match turned out; no one expected a repeat of the result at the Emirates Stadium at the start of the season.

The game showed how much Leeds have to do to catch up with the best teams in the league. It is a huge part of why the 49ers have tried to get major targets to add some quality to the side this month. However, things have not gone the way the ownership would want.

Leeds United set to complete deal for Edward Ibrovic-Fletcher

Facundo Buonanotte has been the only first team addition this month, joining on loan from Brighton after cutting short his loan deal at Chelsea. Outside that, the Whites have had a failed attempt to sign Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen. After refusing to match their valuation of the Norwegian international, the club pulled out of the deal and now Strand Larsen is headed to Crystal Palace.

Pete O’Rourke has now confirmed that Leeds United are set to sign Manchester United youngster Edward Ibrovic-Fletcher. Reports emerged a few weeks ago that the young attacking midfielder could leave Old Trafford. Ibrovic-Fletcher was keen on moving to accelerate his development and it looks like he has chosen Elland Road for his future. No official details about the move have been confirmed at this time.

Fans will not be pleased with January activity

Just like the summer window, many fans will not be pleased with how this month has gone. It started out with a lot of promise with the signing of Buonanotte and the news involving Strand Larsen. But to come out of the latter empty handed, and not finding an alternative is just poor planning by the club.

It is understandable to walk away from the deal because of the fee, but to not have another target lined up is not great. Leeds needed more quality in the squad, and have failed to improve upon what they currently have. And now the outlook from now till the end of the season will be very different.
