However, Red Devils director of football Jason Wilcox told the left-back to turn around at the 11th hour.
United low on left-backs
Wilcox may have been sparked into action given United's dearth of fit left-backs.
Patrick Dorgu sustained a hamstring injury during United's stunning 3-2 win over Arsenal, with Red Devils caretaker boss Michael Carrick claiming the Dane will be 'out for a period of time.'
Teenage talent Harry Amass also faces a stint on the sidelines having picked up an issue during a training session at Norwich, who he joined on loan in January.

Speaking on Saturday, Norwich boss Philippe Clement claimed Amass had sustained a 'serious' injury and 'will be out for a long time'.
With Luke Shaw the only other fit left-back on United's books, Malacia's mooted switch to Besiktas may have been blocked to ensure there's enough bodies on deck.
How often has Malacia played this season?
Malacia has made only one appearance for United this term, which came in the form of a two-minute cameo off the bench against Newcastle on Boxing Day.
He has been an unused substitute on 13 other occasions in the league this season.
Malacia will be a free agent this summer and United appear to have no desire to prolong his stay.
The 26-year-old was also the only member of the club's so-called 'bomb squad' that did not get a move away last summer.

Alejandro Garnacho and Antony managed to land permanent exits away to Chelsea and Real Betis respectively.
High-earning duo Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford also departed Old Trafford albeit on temporary arrangements, as they joined Aston Villa and Barcelona respectively on season-long loans.
There were also loan moves away for Rasmus Hojlund and Andre Onana to Napoli and Trabzonspor respectively.
Malacia moved to United from Feyenoord in July 2022 but has endured a largely forgettable stint at the English giants.
In total, he has made 48 appearances across all competitions, 34 of which have been starts.
His time at Old Trafford has largely been overshadowed by injuries, which forced him to miss 70 matches.

But the Dutchman is now likely to endure another wait for consistent minutes having been prevented from joining Besiktas, who are fifth in the Turkish Super Lig.
