The 22-year-old Slovenian has been dropped to the bench for Carrick’s first three matches in charge, with Bryan Mbeumo leading the United frontline instead.

Bryan Mbeumo has performed well as the lone striker in Carrick’s set-up and linked up superbly well with Bruno Fernandes, who has been shifted to the No 10 role.

Sesko was an unused substitute in Man Utd’s 2-0 win over Manchester City at Old Trafford last month before making cameo appearances against Arsenal and Fulham.

Speaking on The Athletic FC’s Talk of the Devils podcast, United We Stand editor Andy Mitten insisted that United still hold Sesko in very high regard at the club.

“In terms of how I feel. I see a long-term player for Manchester United,” he said.

Bryan Mbeumo has netted two times in his last three Man Utd matches since his return from international duty with Cameroon at the 2025 AFCON tournament.

Mitten believes that Carrick has relied on the 26-year-old Cameroon international more so than United striker Sesko because of his need to secure wins for his side.

“Michael Carrick has gone with the sensible in his mind option of starting Bryan Mbeumo at the top,” he added.

“Because he needs results. And I get why he’s done that.

“But it’s really good to have someone like Sesko with his qualities to be able to come off the bench.”

Sesko has found the back of the net six times in 21 matches for the Red Devils across all competitions since his big-money move from RB Leipzig last August.
