Manchester United have sent young forward Ethan Wheatley on loan to League One club Bradford City

The 20-year-old has made four senior appearances for the Red Devils but has spent the last 12 months out on loan as the club eye more minutes in senior football for the England youth international.

He spent the second half of last season on loan with League Two side Walsall and joined League One outfit Northampton in the summer, making 22 appearances and scoring three goals for the Cobblers in the first half of the campaign.

Wheatley has now completed his move to the Bantams, who sit fifth in the League One table as they eye a place in the top six of the third tier. The United man could make his debut for the West Yorkshire club on Saturday when they take on Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

Wheatley said: “I am buzzing. We have been in discussions for quite a while, and I am excited to get the deal done and hopefully help the lads for the rest of the season.

“I hope I can add to the side after the strong start they have made and score goals. The last couple of months at Northampton, I grew as a player, and I want to continue doing that here.”

Bantams boss Graham Alexander added: “We are delighted to bring Ethan in to bolster our attacking options. He has fantastic attributes for a forward player, with plenty of League One games under his belt this season already.

“He showed a great desire to join us when we spoke, and I believe he is going to enjoy his time with us.”

Wheatley hails from Stockport and joined the United academy at the age of nine. He made his Premier League debut aged 18 in a 4-2 win over Sheffield United back in 2024.

He became the 250th academy graduate to debut for the United men’s senior team when he made his first senior appearance for the Red Devils.
