Celtic star Arne Engels is also a target for Forest but the Hoops are reluctant to sell with no time for them to get hold of a replacement.

Now, with just a short time remaining on the transfer window, Forest appear to be targeting another EFL star.

Nottingham Forest eye late move for Sydie Peck

According to the Sheffield Star, the Reds are eyeing a late play to sign Sheffield United star man Sydie Peck.

Peck has come through the academy ranks at Bramall Lane and Forest are clearly weighing up whether or not to make their move.

Chris Wilder called Peck ‘outstanding’ earlier this season and clearly, the Blades boss won’t want to lose his player at such late notice.

The 21-year-old has made 72 appearances for United during his career and also spent time on loan with Oldham before finding his way in senior football.

It’s unlikely that Peck would cost an absolute fortune, although the fact that the defensive midfielder has captained United this season likely suggests they won’t want him to leave.

Peck one to watch for the summer

It’s hard to see United winning promotion to the Premier League this season and as a result, Peck might leave in the summer.

The United academy graduate looks destined to play in the Premier League at some point and it’s good to see Forest looking at EFL starlets for potential signings.

Hackney will likely cost more than Peck even in the summer but bigger clubs might go after the Boro man, paving the way for Forest to land Peck.

It does feel as though there will be no central midfield signing for Forest at this late stage and the hope will be that the current options remain fit.
