Sandro Tonali’s agent has denied claims that he offered Arsenal the chance to sign the Newcastle United star before the transfer deadline. Giuseppe Riso has insisted that that no talks were held with the Gunners after a day of claim and counter claim.
Tonali’s future had emerged as a subject of speculation on transfer deadline day, with Arsenal reportedly interested in signing the Italy international.
As Chronicle Live reported on Monday, Newcastle had not received any approaches from Arsenal about the possibility of signing the Italian international before the transfer window closes.
Now, there has been a fresh update about Tonali’s future at Newcastle, coming from the midfielder’s agent, Giuseppe Riso.
Riso has claimed that he never held talks with Arsenal about a potential transfer for Tonali, and went on to dismiss the speculation that the midfielder could leave St James’ Park.
“We never had any conversation with Arsenal,” Riso told Sky. “Newcastle were never gonna let Tonali leave in January. There’s absolutely nothing into it. We didn’t even talk about it.”
The update from Riso comes after a report in The Athletic claimed that Tonali’s representatives had approached Arsenal about a potential deal for the midfielder, but did not make an official contact with Newcastle.
As a result, it has been claimed that it is now “impossible” for Tonali to leave Newcastle before the transfer window closes.
Riso was also asked about Tonali’s valuation on the transfer market, admitting that the situation will be assessed later in the season.
“It’s not even being discussed now,” Riso said. “We will see around March about Sandro’s valuation but only if Newcastle decide to open doors.
“He’s completely focused on Newcastle season now, it’s nonsense topic”.
