Everton are closing in on signing Tyrique George from Chelsea.
Everton are aiming to complete a deadline-day swoop for Tyrique George.
The Toffees have advanced over signing the winger on loan from Chelsea. George is due to have a medical on Merseyside today, with the deal needing to be completed by the 19.00 GMT deadline.
George is a graduate of Chelsea’s academy and made a total of 37 appearances, recording six goals and six assists. The 19-year-old was a regular starter for the West London side on their way to winning the Europa Conference League last season. He played 13 times in the competition, as well as making two substitute appearances as Chelsea were crowned Club World Cup winners during the summer.
This term, George has been down the pecking order and will hope to play regularly for Everton. The Blues could be without Manchester City loanee Jack Grealish because of a fractured foot.
Speaking on George’s impact at Chelsea last season, former winger Joe Cole said on TNT Sports: “He's a real bright spark. George has taken his opportunity. He's direct, effects games and is a dribbler. He's every full-backs nightmares because he makes things happen. The fans have been calling for him to start more Premier League games because they really like him. He’s from North London, my neck of the woods. He is a good boy and another one out of the academy pipeline.”
George has found himself behind the likes of Pedro Neto, Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens at Chelsea this season.
Speaking on George earlier this month, recently appointed head coach Liam Rosenior said: "Tyrique is a player of immense potential who I've been aware of for a long time. He's been unfortunate. The first game against Charlton, he travelled with the group. He wasn't in the group. Yesterday he was on the bench.
"I've said this to the players, your background, whether you're an academy player, whether you've been signed for £100m, it's about what you do in training. I have to say his attitude to training and what I've seen his attitude in the group has been top class.”
