West Ham United are at major risk of going through the January transfer window without signing a defender – despite putting Axel Disasi through a medical.
While supporters may never have been fully convinced about the Disasi deal in the first place, the fact is that West Ham United desperately needed a central defender.
They already have statistically the worst backline across Europe’s major five leagues and Nuno Espirito Santo’s unit has recently been made significantly weaker.
We all love the club to bits, but let’s be real – what would you have to tell a new signing to convince them to join?! 😔

Indeed, Jean-Clair Todibo’s red card against Chelsea leaves Nuno without many options heading into Saturday’s huge game at Burnley.
With that in mind, the fact that West Ham scheduled a medical for Disasi was at least somewhat promising.
However, as is seemingly always the case with West Ham, complications emerged.
Doubts about Axel Disasi’s move to West Ham United emerge
After the deadline had passed, Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian posted some worrying news on X.

Though he did confirm that the former Monaco defender was undergoing a medical with the Hammers, it doesn’t mean a deal will in fact be done.
Steinberg suggests that the idea of going through does remain in doubt.
He posted: “Axel Disasi is having his West Ham medical but the deal going through remains in doubt.”
Would you take relegation if it meant that David Sullivan would leave?! 🤔
Not a nice position to be in – but what would YOU choose if you had to?

Madness at West Ham United on Deadline Day
Quite why the club have left it this long to move for a defender boggles the mind.
It has been painfully obvious for months now that West Ham need a central defender and the fact they’ve got themselves into this position is a real concern.

Disasi rejected a move to West Ham in the summer of 2025 too, so even if they do sign him, that is hardly a ringing endorsement of what he thinks about the club.
There is also no guarantee he’d even be fit enough to keep them in the Premier League.
Chaos continually unfolds at West Ham and it’s the supporters who are there to pick up the pieces.
