Reading FC have completed a surprise loan signing from Aston Villa on deadline day.

The 20-year-old, a winger who can play on either side or even as a centre-forward if required, is highly regarded in Villa’s academy. Unai Emery’s side are lacking attacking depth for the remainder of the season but Young was unlikely to play any further part, so a loan away made sense.

Young will be hoping his Reading switch is more successful than his previous loan to Royal Antwerp, as he played merely 65 league minutes for the Belgian top-flight club last season. Emery is hoping that League One will be a great level for the England Under-19 forward to develop.

Reading boss Leam Richardson commented: “Kadan is an exciting young wide player who gives us added depth and real pace in the wide areas. He’s someone with excellent character, a strong work ethic, and plenty of potential, and we’re looking forward to working with him during his time with us.”

Subject to approval from the EFL, Young could make his debut this weekend as the Royals take on AFC Wimbledon away from home. After that, Reading travel to Wigan Athletic before hosting Wycombe Wanderers and Bolton Wanderers. Reading are currently 10th in League One, eight points outside the play-offs.
