Kristjaan Speakman explains Simon Adingra decison as Sunderland winger completes loan exit

Sunderland have concluded more transfer business on deadline day

Simon Adingra has completed an initial loan move to Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.

It’s understood that Sunderland will back an initial seven-figure loan fee as part of the arrangement, while the club have also confirmed that the deal includes an option for the French club to make the loan permanent in the summer. The fee will be in the region of £15 million if AS Monaco do take up that option.

Sunderland sporting director Krisjtaan Speakman said it was an opportunity that suited all parties, with Adingra having struggled to hold down a regular spot in Régis Le Bris’s starting XI through the first half of the campaign.

“When considering the balance and priorities of the squad, we felt this was a mutually agreeable opportunity that ensures Simon plays regularly throughout the second part of the season,” Speakman said.

“The stature of this move represents the quality and professional characteristics he possesses, in addition to his motivation to play every week. We wish Simon well and will monitor his progress closely.”

Sunderland are hoping to conclude a deal for Anderlecht winger Nilson Angulo to replace Adingra in their squad. The Black Cats have agreed an initial fee in the region of £15 million to sign the Ecuador international.
