Watch as Crystal Palace announce £48m signing by using viral Newcastle United-inspired video

Transfer deadline day: Former Newcastle United target Jorgen Strand Larsen has signed for Crystal Palace.

Palace will pay the Old Gold up to £48m for the Norwegian international who spent just half a season as a permanent Wolves player. Palace were one of the busiest clubs on deadline day with their move for Strand Larsen dominating the headlines across the Premier League.

The Eagles also kept hold of Jean-Philippe Mateta past the 7pm deadline, despite the Frenchman spending the last week of the window being linked with a variety of moves away from the club and having a move to AC Milan collapse in the final few hours of the window.

After a busy day, Palace announced the signing of Strand Larsen as the window slammed shut. Speaking about his move to Selhurst Park, the striker said: "I'm really excited to come to Crystal Palace. It's been something I've wanted to do for a long time now. I'm here to bring energy and goals, and to try to do my best for the club."

Palace Chairman Steve Parish added: “We’re delighted that Jørgen has chosen to continue his impressive journey with us and look forward to seeing him in action at Selhurst Park.

“I’m sure he will prove himself a valuable asset for years to come.”

As has become tradition, Palace announced the signing of Strand Larsen with a video on their social media channels. That video was a clip of a video from a Wolves fan that went viral back in August.

At that time, Newcastle United were heavily-linked with a move for Strand Larsen and had even submitted a bid, worth a reported £60m, for the striker. Wolves, though, would reject their advances and Strand Larsen remained their player - for another six months.

The Magpies subsequently turned their attention elsewhere and signed Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa from Brentford. After impressing during his debut campaign in England, Strand Larsen has followed that up with a disappointing season that has seen him net just one Premier League goal.

That came back in October during Wolves’ defeat to Burnley - but it is not a record that has put off too many suitors, though, with both Leeds United and Nottingham Forest having shown an interest in the striker in the early weeks of the window.
