In the race for promotion, the club failed to make any major signings, which left Daniel Farke furious. Leeds eventually won the league on the final day of the season and got promoted. The summer saw them bring in 10 new players as they hoped to build a team good enough to survive in the top flight. Before a ball was kicked, many tipped the Whites to go down, but halfway through the campaign, Leeds are still fighting.

Many were expecting defensive reinforcements to shore up the squad depth. Union Berlin defender Danilho Doekhi was heavily linked with a switch to the Whites, but his club reportedly did not want to budge on their valuation.
The story could continue this summer, as Doekhi will be a free agent. According to Florian Plettenburg, the defender chose to stay in the Bundesliga for the rest of the campaign. He has plans of choosing a new team in the summer with a lot of clubs interested. The 49ers not overpaying to complete a deal could be the best decision they made this month.

Survival should be the priority
As much as getting a solid player for free this summer would be the perfect ending, survival should be the ultimate priority for Leeds United. The Whites climbing up a division is a huge reason they landed many major signings from top leagues. Doekhi could potentially be another, and the 49ers will be hoping the team remains in the Premier League in order to attract a player of that calibre. Daniel Farke and the players now have a huge job on their hands.
