Barcelona boss clarifies his stance on Marcus Rashford’s future as Man Utd return claims rise

Marcus Rashford has enjoyed a lot of success after making the switch from England to Barcelona, but with rumours starting to swirl about his future in Spain, Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has clarified his stance on the Englishman’s future.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford joined Barcelona on a season-long loan in the summer, a deal that includes a £26 million option to make the move permanent.

After spending the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, the 28-year-old saw the switch to Spain as a chance for a fresh start and a step away from the relentless scrutiny of the English media.

The change of scenery has paid off, with Rashford thriving at Barcelona, scoring ten goals and providing 12 assists in 31 appearances for his new side.

With rumours swirling surrounding the winger’s future, Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has clarified his stance on Rashford’s situation in Spain.

Hansi Flick “delighted” with Marcus Rashford

After being frozen out of the side by Rúben Amorim following the manager’s questioning of his work ethic in training, Rashford has adapted well to life in La Liga, impressing in a new league.

After the Portuguese coach was sacked, rumours have started to swirl that United could attempt to convince Rashford to stay at Old Trafford in the summer, but it is understood to be unlikely.

After scoring his tenth goal of the season last Saturday, Flick spoke about the Englishman’s performances in Barcelona. As reported by The Manchester Evening News, he said, “I think he has a lot of potential to show. We always focus on goals, the final pass, because this is one of the ways you can measure things, and he’s doing well in that regard.

“There’s always room for improvement. But with his speed and technique, he can give us so much more. I’m delighted with what he’s giving us, but he has much more potential. I want everyone to be at their best.

“It’s about mentality, attitude during training… That’s what we want to see. Always striving to be better.”

Man Utd should move on from Rashford

With Barcelona’s financial troubles over the past few seasons, some reports have indicated that the Catalan giants may not trigger the £26 million option to buy included in the loan deal.

While a fairytale return to Old Trafford would certainly please the fanbase, some of the abuse that the 28-year-old received from his own fans will stick with him, and it’s probably best for both parties to part ways.

While £26 million may seem a cut-price deal now that Rashford is back on top form, United will need as much money as possible to complete their midfield overhaul, with at least two stars expected to be signed, as their four-man shortlist has been revealed.

There is also the chance that Rashford could be used in a potential swap deal for potential midfield targets, with a potential swap deal including Barcelona’s Marc Casado rumoured, while PSG are reportedly also interested in pursuing a similar deal.
