The Toffees demanded £20m to sell the 26-year-old this late into the winter transfer window, and looked to have seen this asking price met as the Eagles bid that exact amount.

Sky Sports – however – have now shared the finer details of this deal, and Dwight McNeil has not officially departed Everton just yet by the looks of it.

What would your message to Crystal Palace fans be ahead of Dwight McNeil’s move? 😉

Thank you very much, Crystal Palace 🤣

Dwight McNeil’s £20m move to Crystal Palace hinges on “certain conditions” being met

This deal is actually structured as a loan with an obligation for Crystal Palace to make it permanent in the summer.

However, the obligatory clause is dependent on “certain conditions” being met by the Englishman at Selhurst Park.

Sky Sports say these conditions are “realistic to achieve” – although until McNeil actually triggers them, he is technically still just an Everton player on loan to another Premier League side.

There is also every chance that the man born in Rochdale suffers an injury and cannot actually trigger these conditions – were they to be related to appearances, for example.

McNeil missed 18 games last season due to a knee injury, so a permanent deal may also depend on whether the Burnley academy graduate suffers a reoccurrence of that problem.

How Crystal Palace managed to sign Dwight McNeil this late into deadline day

At the time of writing, Crystal Palace and Everton are still yet to officially announce this deal, as the finer details are ironed out.

The winter transfer window officially ended at 7pm, but clubs were able to submit a deal sheet to gain an additional two hours to finalise moves, so long as there was a broad agreement between all parties.

Deadline day is now done… what’s your thoughts, Toffees? 😬

That is how Crystal Palace and Everton were able to take discussions beyond the 7pm deadline, with the Toffees also requiring a deal sheet to finalise the signing of Tyrique George on loan from Chelsea.
