Crystal Palace were keen to sign Dwight McNeil.

Dwight McNeil will be staying at Everton.

The winger’s proposed move to Crystal Palace from the Toffees will not got ahead. Everton had accepted a loan with an obligation to buy for £20 million in the summer.

McNeil started a medical at Selhurst Park, with Palace submitting a deal sheet as they were given an extra two hours following the 19.00 GMT deadline. But the deal could not be done in time so McNeil will remain at Everton.

The 26-year-old has found himself down the pecking order in David Moyes’ side this season. Iliman Ndiaye, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jack Grealish have been Everton’s preferred attacking trio.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy said on talkSPORT: “He’s obviously going to be disappointment. Once you decide to go for the medical, you’re in. You’re on board and start getting the excitement.because he’s not getting the minutes at Everton but I like him. I understand why because Ndiaye is terrific, Dewsbury-Hall has been magnificent, Grealish as well.”

“He was probably looking forward to a fresh challenge so he will be devastated. From Palace’s point of view, it will be a loss because he can fill so many roles and is a bit different to what they’ve got. For Palace, it’s a blow.”
