Manchester United academy loanee has paused his loan spell after suffering a ‘serious’ injury in a trainining sessions just days after his debut.
Manchester United defender Harry Amass joined Norwich City at the end of January, where the youngster was set to spend the remainder of the season.
The 18-year-old made his debut for the Championship side last week, playing in the final 15 minutes of the Canaries’ 2-1 victory over Coventry.
However, Amass was left out of the squad this weekend in their away-day defeat to Middlesbrough, with the teen unfit to play due to suffering a suspected ‘long-term’ injury to his hamstring during a training session preparing for the match.
Utdreport shared on their X that the England under-19s player is due to return to Old Trafford for the club to assess the severity of the injury, with other reports indicating that Amass is likely to remain on the sidelines for the rest of the season.
United set to recall Amass
Sources close to United have revealed that there’s no definite answer to what Amass’ recovery process is going to look like; they’ve all concluded that the full-back is looking to be out for a long period of time.
Once Amass returns to Manchester and his injury is fully asessed his future at Norwich will be determined, and if the injury is to be as bad as alluded to, then the club will likely terminate his contract at Norwich entirely.
If the young defender is to be in good condition for the final matches of the season, then his time playing under Philippe Clement may remain, with all parties hoping that this is the case.
Clement spoke about the situation in his post-match press conference over the weekend, stating that, “Harry in the dying seconds of the training, he got an injury. I didn’t want to say anything at the press conference because I wanted everything to be assessed.
“The assessment is that it will be a long-term injury. He is on loan from Man U, so we need to speak with Man U. I don’t want to speak too fast about how long or whatever, because it is also a decision together.
Amass’s first major setback
Amass is likely to feel disappointed that his time at Carrow Road has come to a fast close. Before arriving at the club, Amass shared that he was excited to join the team: “I’ve spoken with Ben [Knapper, Norwich sporting director] and the gaffer.

“They’ve both told me that they’ve been watching me since Sheffield Wednesday and a bit before that, and they have liked what they’ve seen.
“They like the way that I carry the ball, the way that I am on the ball, the hard work that I show.
“They spoke to me and said they see that I can do good things here, they believe that it’ll be a benefit for the club and for me, so it should be good both ways.”
Despite that, Amass is set to return to Manchester United, but he is incredibly unlikely to receive minutes under Michael Carrick if his Norwich contract is to be terminated and he makes an unexpected recovery. This heavily impacts the youngsters’ development, with the likelihood of receiving a first-team call-up again next campaign only worsening.
