West Ham completed the Axel Disasi transfer more than an hour after the deadline.
The signing caps a strong window for West Ham, who also signed Taty Castellanos, Felipe Pablo, Adama |Traore and Keiber Lamadrid.
The Iron are hoping those new recruits will prove the difference as they look to ramp up a relegation battle with Nottingham Forest and Leeds United over the coming weeks and mopths.
Speaking after his move was confirmed, Disasi told club media: “I’m very happy to be here, to have this opportunity. I’m just ready to fight and to play games.
“Everyone knows my situation in the last few months, so I just want to get back on the field, feel the sensation of games and help the team. The Club has given me the opportunity to show my quality on the pitch. I spoke with all the people here, and I feel that they really wanted me, so that’s why I’m here today.
“It’s an exciting challenge. We know that the Club is not at the place that it should be, but I’m here to help the team and to bring what I can to achieve our goal.”
Disasi joins West Ham after months without football having previously been frozen out by former boss Enzo Maresca, but he was recently welcomed back to first team training by Liam Rosenior. The Maresca decisions was understood to be tactical rather than any personal or behaviour issues on the defender’s part.
Merson on Disasi move
Speaking to Sky Sports about Disasi’s switch across London, Paul Merson said: “I think it’s a good move, I do think it’s a good move. As long as they (West Ham) don’t play out from the back. He’s not going to play out from the back.
“He’s not one of them who’s going to, but if you ask him to defend, he will defend. Yeah, he’s a defender, an out-and-out defender. He’s quick, he’s strong. And I’ve heard from people at Chelsea when I’ve been there, his attitude’s been good. Do you know what I mean? So I’m glad he’s going to get a move.
“I don’t want him to be the player that comes in and everybody’s giving him the ball and he’s got to play out with it. I think then he’s going to be in a bit of trouble. But if you want someone to defend and, you know, put their body on the line, good signing.”
