Cobblers have a ‘purchase option’ on both Ben Hammond and Kyle McAdam at the end of the season, according to their parent club Nottingham Forest.

McAdam, a versatile left-sided player, and Hammond, a defender who can also play in central midfield, joined Cobblers from Forest on deadline day and will spend the rest of the season at Sixfields.

The pair of 21-year-olds are no strangers to Town manager Kevin Nolan, who lives in Nottingham, and both will now have the opportunity to impress in League One. McAdam has already been in loan in the third tier after a spell at Mansfield.

Craig Mulholland, head of football development and talent management at Nottingham Forest, said: “The opportunity to work with Northampton was something we were keen to do again given the success they have had with our academy graduates in the last 12 months.

"Both Ben and Kyle epitomise Forest values and are outstanding young professionals with incredible dedication. They will take this attitude to Northampton as they embark on the next stage on their journey. Our excellent Player Pathways team will support both lads closely during their loan spell.”

A Forest club statement, released on Monday evening, read: “Nottingham Forest can confirm Ben Hammond and Kyle McAdam have both joined Northampton Town on initial loan deals.

“Welsh Under-21 international Hammond joined Forest as a nine-year old and having worked his way through the academy, has gone on to play nearly 100 times for the B Team. The midfielder, who has also featured in the matchday squad on three occasions in this year’s Europa League campaign, heads to Northampton for his first professional loan.

“The versatile McAdam is joining Hammond at the League One side, with the Cobblers holding a purchase option on both players at the end of the season. McAdam spent the first half of the season at fellow League One side Mansfield, featuring ten times for the Stags.

“Everyone at Nottingham Forest wishes both players the very best for the rest of the season.”
