Jimenez set to join Cherries on permanent basis if he starts against Villa

The right back joined the Cherries on loan from AC Milan in the summer, with an obligation to buy clause included in the deal.

That clause is set to be triggered if he starts or plays more than 45 minutes in 50 per cent of Premier League games he has been available for – and that will come on Saturday. He will sign a five-year deal.

The Athletic reported that this will mean that AC Milan, and former club Real Madrid, will lose any rights over the right back’s future.

Bournemouth will pay €19million for the 20-year-old, with €5m in possible add ons. Milan will get €5m plus 50 per cent of the rest of the money, while the other half will go to Madrid.

The Spanish club did hold a buy back clause in the deal they made with Milan to sell the right back in 2023 worth €8m in the summer of 2024 and €12m in the summer of 2025, it is reported.

There was also a matching rights clause, which meant they could match the bid of any other club for Jimenez, but any power Madrid had over his future will be lost should he start on Saturday.

Jimenez joined Bournemouth on deadline day in the summer, meaning he missed the first three league games of the campaign.

But he has featured in at least part of every game since bar one, Sunderland away, starting 16 games of the 21, and all of the past 11 matches.

The young Spaniard has been a standout performer for Andoni Iraola’s side, particularly in the past couple of months, as he has been asked to play further up the pitch than his preferred right back spot at times.

Jimenez has been a bright spark going forward, with his driving runs from deep becoming something of a trademark for him.

When the Spaniard arrived, he had a bit of a reputation for regular bookings, and he picked up a yellow in his first three appearances for the team.

But since, his discipline has been good, collecting just three more yellow cards in 17 games.

His defensive workrate is excellent, and he has given his all for Iraola’s side, regularly finishing out on his feet and being replaced late on.

The 20-year-old has scored once and provided one assist so far this term, netting his first goal for the club against Liverpool, a good finish after he was played in behind brilliantly by James Hill.

The Cherries host Aston Villa on Saturday at Dean Court.
