The January transfer window has now closed its doors. It was a fairly quiet window – but which teams in the Premier League have benefitted the most from it?
Today, we’ll be looking at our first team of the week following the transfer window’s conclusion. We’ll be looking at players from teams such as Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United – can you guess who they are?
GK: Caoimhin Kelleher
Caoimhin Kelleher has been an excellent signing for Brentford – the Bees have been blessed with some brilliant goalkeepers since their ascension to the Premier League, but Kelleher is certainly among the best of them.
The Republic of Ireland international had plenty of work to do, as Brentford were reduced to ten men against Aston Villa, but he was equal to everything the Villans coud throw at him.
RB: Adam Smith
Adam Smith put forth a steady defensive display against a resurgent Wolves team, shutting out the midlands outfit and keeping a clean sheet away from home for Bournemouth.
He had to contain the dangerous Mateus Mane throughout the game, but he had no problem in with stopping him in his tracks.
CB: Gabriel
Once again, Arsenal’s Gabriel makes it into our team of the week – there shouldn’t be any doubts as to who will be getting the defender of the year award at the end of the season.
The Brazilian international didn’t score this time out, but he still put forth a monolithic defensive display to shut Leeds United out at Elland Road.
CB: Kristoffer Ajer
Kelleher might have put in a string display between the sticks, but he was greatly aided by the towering presence of Kristoffer Ajer just in front of him.
The Norweigian international was imperious in the air, heading away any balls that were lofted into the area by Villa.
