As things stand, United are fourth in the Premier League with 14 games left to play. They need to show consistency to see off competition from Chelsea and Liverpool for one of the Champions League spots.

With multiple players chipping in with goals under Carrick, the United head coach has big decisions to make with his team selection. The 44-year-old will have a headache when it comes to selecting his line-up to face Tottenham.

Danny Webber hails Benjamin Sesko after Fulham winner

Sesko is one of the players who is knocking on Carrick’s door right now, especially after scoring such an important goal against Fulham on Sunday.

The Slovenian has yet to start a game under Carrick, but he now has six goals (all competitions) to his name this season and will hope to build on that this coming weekend.

If Sesko continues to score goals, Carrick will find a place for him in the team, but it’s helpful for the head coach to have multiple scorers in the squad – with Mbeumo and Cunha chipping in, along with Bruno Fernandes.

In the 94th minute against Fulham, Bruno Fernandes played a superb dummy around Calvin Bassey and ran through to square the ball to Sesko. The striker took a touch, turned, and struck his effort into the top corner without looking up.

Sesko absolutely leathered the ball into the roof of the net at the near post, with a finish that should give him a spring in his step this week.

Former United academy player turned pundit Danny Webber analysed Sesko’s goal for MUTV, observing what Sesko did before the goal that put the fear into his opposing defenders.

“Brilliant it really is,” Webber said.

“If you look at the early part of it, he makes the run and the defender doesn’t know where he is. He puts the fear into defenders when he sprints into the box.

“You’ve got somebody like Bruno Fernandes who can deliver in the way that he did.

“His first touch sets him, and he uses the defender that’s coming across to bend it around. It’s a great finish, the ‘keeper has no chance.”
