Wolves still have the chance to bring in some new faces, despite the end of the January transfer window

Wolves have the opportunity to delve into the free agent market now the January transfer window has shut. The Midlands outfit have the chance to freshen up their squad by landing some unattached players. They remain bottom of the Premier League table.

Rob Edwards’ side are in the bottom three along with Burnley and West Ham. They are 18 points from safety behind Nottingham Forest in 17th. Next up is a tricky home clash against Chelsea at Molineux this weekend. In the meantime, here is a look at some free agents they could sign...

Free agent defensive and midfield options for Wolves

Centre-back Kurt Zouma is available as a free agent and he will be weighing up his next move in the game. The 31-year-old, who is a former France youth international, has recently cut ties with CFR Cluj in Romania. He is now an option for Wolves.

Zouma would give Edwards more competition and depth at the back if he joined. He has played in the top flight in the past for Chelsea, Stoke City, Everton and West Ham. The defender has made over 400 appearances in his career to date.

Midfielder Dele Alli remains on the market and is yet to find a new home for himself. He last played for Como in Italy but parted ways with the Serie A club last year. It remains to be seen at this stage where the former Tottenham Hotspur man will end up next and he will be considering his next destination.

Free agent attacking options for Wolves

Wolves could do with some more firepower at the top end of the pitch. With that in mind, Jesse Lingard would be worth a gamble. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the 33-year-old return to England now following the expiration of his deal in South Korea at FC Seoul.

Another player Edwards could look to snap up is Raheem Sterling. He has recently left Chelsea and will surely have a selection of teams chasing his signature. The winger spent last term on loan at Arsenal and fell out of favour upon his return to Stamford Bridge, hence why he has now been allowed to leave prematurely.

The Blues’ head coach Liam Rosenior said last week: "He (Sterling) is a magnificent guy and player. There are a lot of positive things going on the background that I have nothing to do with. I wish Raheem and his family all the best."

Elsewhere, a more cheaper alternative for Wolves is Ryan Kent. The 29-year-old spent last year in America at Seattle Sounders. The ex-Liverpool and Rangers man has now departed the MLS club and is unattached as he looks to get himself back into the game.

Kent rose up through the academy at Anfield but didn’t quite make the grade. He was loaned out to Coventry City, Freiburg and Bristol City before his switch to Ibrox. The Oldham-born man then spent four years in Glasgow before leaving for Turkey with Fenerbahce in 2024.
