Manchester United opted against making any signings during the January transfer window, which means the recruitment team are focused on the summer ahead.
Although January was a busy month at Old Trafford, with Manchester United sacking Ruben Amorim two weeks before Michael Carrick returned as head coach, it was predictably low-key on the transfer front.
Most of United’s targets were not available midway through the season, even though more efforts were made to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton.
United missed out on Antoine Sememyo, who left Bournemouth for Man City, but other than that, it never seemed like a new signing would arrive.

Carrick’s ultimate objective at United is to qualify for the Champions League. By doing that, he could make a case to keep the job, but it would also come as a boost financially to the club.
Champions League qualification could lead to extra squad investment, as well as helping convince the best players to move to Old Trafford.
Ornstein is not expecting a ‘crazy’ window from United, but stressed that there will be a focus on strengthening the midfield.
United are also targeting a forward player for the left flank, while a centre-back could be signed if Harry Maguire isn’t given a contract extension at the end of the season.
“I do think there’s a lot that they want to do,” Ornstein said.
“Most importantly, centre midfield, so that’s why we are going to see continued links with the likes of Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, and there will be others in the frame because that is such a critical position, especially now Casemiro has confirmed his departure.
“There’s also intrigue around the left-sided attacking position because obviously they were in for Antoine Semenyo. Didn’t get him. They will have Sancho and Rashford departing. That’s an existing aim for that part of the pitch.
“Will Harry Maguire be leaving the club? He’s been so important but this is his option year and he’s due to leave, with no news on a new contract, so central defence will be an area of focus.
“There’s a number of positions there that Manchester United or whoever the new head coach is going to be, which is going to be one of the biggest stories of 2026. Whether it be Michael Carrick or a fresh appointment altogether.
“I think the early signs with Carrick have given Manchester United fans some hope and people around Manchester United despite it being very embryonic, that better times could be ahead.
“However, we have been here before. Actions speak louder than words.”

Man Utd set to save money on wages
Money will be saved on wages when Casemiro, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho leave United this summer.
The same applies to Tyrell Malacia after his deadline day move to Turkey collapsed.
This money can be used to attract new signings, but it also gives Ineos a chance to improve the club financially.
This will give Jason Wilcox a chance as football director to change the wage structure at Old Trafford.
