Crysencio Summerville’s form at West Ham United could lead him to being the big surprise in the Netherlands World Cup squad.
That’s according to journalist Suleyman Öztürk of Voetbal International. His comments on the West Ham forward have been relayed by Soccer News.
He was busy discussing who may be a surprise inclusion in the Dutch squad for the summer tournament. That led him on to a discussion about Summerville’s current run of form.
He’s been impressing for West Ham of late, leading their resurgence as they look to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
The Dutchman has three goals and one assist in his last four Premier League games, having gone without since two assists against Nottingham Forest back in August.
It’s an upturn in form that’s helped West Ham end a barren run of results with back-to-back wins against Tottenham and Sunderland before the 3-2 defeat to Chelsea last weekend.
It’s also given them a glimmer of hope of escaping the current dire circumstances they find themselves in. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side sit 18th in the table, six points behind Nottingham Forest and Leeds head of them.
West Ham forward could call up
And Öztürk believes that if he can keep it up, a surprise call-up for the Netherlands could be on the cards this summer.
“He’s getting such a high level of performance now… I think he’s playing so well at West Ham right now,” he said.
“He’s specifically a Noa Lang type, a dribbler who can create something. With four goals and two assists in his last five games, Summerville is in top form at West Ham.
“I think that kid has the ambition to join the Dutch national team. I think he’s in form at just the right time, which means he has a chance of going to the World Cup. He could be the big surprise in the squad that you wouldn’t have expected six months ago.
Öztürk saw Summerville struggling at West Ham for a long time, but Espirito Santo’s arrival has seemingly fixed that.
“Then a manager comes along who looks at him from a slightly different perspective. And he seizes that opportunity,” he added.
“You have to be ready for that. I think it’s great that he’s not throwing the towel in. You see an ambitious kid, still quite young, who is now making a difference in the Premier League.”
