Deadline Day DEAL: Adam Armstrong Joins Wolves
Wolves moved smartly on Deadline Day with the addition of Adam Armstrong, strengthening their attacking options and handing Rob Edwards his first signing as Old Gold head coach.
The 28-year-old arrives from Southampton after four-and-a-half years on the south coast, ready for a fresh challenge—and determined to make an immediate impact at Molineux.
Armstrong: “Proud and honoured” to wear Old Gold
Armstrong spoke with real pride about what it means to become a Wolves player, as a deal that had been developing in the background accelerated quickly over the weekend.
“I’m so proud and honoured to be able to represent this club… I’m delighted and over the moon – what a club to come to, with the history of the club, the fans, everything about it.”
“Over the weekend things started to progress quite quick and before you know it I was travelling up here to get it all sorted.”
“All I can say to the fans is they’re going to get 100 per cent from me every time I wear the shirt, which is the main thing.”
Edwards: “He’s a competitor… a goal threat and a goal scorer”
Edwards believes Armstrong brings exactly what Wolves need right now: edge, hunger, and proven quality in the final third.
“Adam’s really excited to be here. He’s a competitor and he’s got something about him that we need now. He was really keen to come and join Wolves, and wants to play for Wolves, so it’s a really good day for the club getting him in.”
The head coach also emphasised Armstrong’s all-round game, not just his finishing.
“He’s someone I’ve admired for a long, long time. He’s a really good footballer, a goal threat and a goal scorer. He’s someone who can play off the sides if we wanted him to, he’ll see himself as a nine and as a goal scorer, but he’s more than that.”
And crucially, Edwards made it clear the club were selective about who they added to the group.
“We were only going to bring people in if we felt they could really affect the group in a positive way, not just on the pitch, but around the whole place as well. Hopefully everyone really gets behind him and shows him that love really early on.”
Why Armstrong believes he’ll fit under Edwards
Armstrong already knows what an Edwards side looks like from the other side of the pitch—and he believes that intensity and honesty will suit him.
“I’ve played against the gaffer’s teams before and I know how he works. It’s such a hardworking, honest group… I’m excited to become a part of the project.”
He’s hoping to settle quickly, get on the training ground, and build relationships fast.
“Hopefully everything goes to plan, and I can train with the boys on Tuesday, get to know them a bit more, and see what happens at the weekend.”
A Deadline Day addition with real purpose
Wolves have added a forward who’s hungry, experienced, and fully bought in—exactly the kind of signing that can lift a squad late in a window. With Armstrong’s work ethic and Edwards’ belief in what he brings, there’s genuine optimism that this Deadline Day move can pay off quickly at Molineux.
