Gary Neville shares Alejandro Garnacho verdict six months after Man Utd exit,'people are questioning...'

Gary Neville had more questions than answers as he gave a telling verdict on Alejandro Garnacho’s first six months at Chelsea after leaving Manchester United.

There was a time when it felt like Alejandro Garnacho had the world at his feet, winning the FA Youth Cup in 2022 before going on to win the senior FA Cup competition and scoring against Man City in the final.

The Argentina international joined United’s academy from Atletico Madrid in 2020 before making his senior debut in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford in April 2022.

Garnacho made 144 appearances for United’s first team and scored 26 goals before completing a transfer to Chelsea last summer.

The 21-year-old had fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim, but he has since joined Chelsea, only to learn that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

Gary Neville delivers brutal Alejandro Garnacho verdict

Garnacho has been the subject of criticism lately for his performances at Chelsea.

Liam Rosenior’s side beat West Ham 3-2 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night, but the Blues found themselves trailing 2-0 at the break following goals from Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville.

At half-time, Rosenior withdrew Garnacho before Chelsea went on to score three goals in the second half to secure three points in the Premier League.

Garnacho has yet to really get going at Chelsea. His performance against West Ham was arguably among his worst since leaving United, after losing possession 12 times in just 45 minutes.

Former United captain Gary Neville has weighed in with his verdict on Garnacho since leaving Old Trafford.

“Look, Alejandro Garnacho is a player that sort of divides opinion,” Neville said on The Gary Neville Podcast.

“I think at times a lot of people are questioning, is he top class or where is he?

“Where is he in the pecking order? What was harsh, what was difficult to watch was a young player like that who’s gone to Chelsea. He looked shot to pieces in terms of his confidence on that left-hand side.”

Alejandro Garnacho stats since leaving Man Utd

Game time is not an issue for Garnacho at Chelsea, where he has made 26 appearances so far this season.

The problem for Garnacho is his level of performance and lack of goals.

The wide man has just six goals across all competitions this season, with four of those goals coming in the League Cup.

Garnacho will be aiming for double figures, but the former United star has managed just one goal in the league so far.
