Birmingham City and West Brom still have the chance to sign some more players, despite the end of the transfer window
Birmingham City won 2-0 away at Oxford United last time out. Marvin Ducksch got himself on the scoresheet against the U’s at the Kassam Stadium, whilst Myles Peart-Harris scored an own goal. The Blues are now sat in 13th place in the Championship table after 30 fixtures and are five points off the play-offs.
As for West Brom, they were beaten 3-0 by Portsmouth at Fratton Park. It has been a tough start for Eric Ramsay at the helm at The Hawthorns. Here is a look at some free agents who remain available for the Midlands pair...
Defensive free agent options for Birmingham City and West Brom
West Brom fans will know all about about Craig Dawson from his spell with the Baggies from 2010 to 2019. He played 225 games in all competitions and scored 15 goals from the back. The centre-back has also had spells in the past at Rochdale, Watford and West Ham.
He remains unattached since his exit from Wolves at the end of last season. The veteran would be perfect for Ramsay’s side to boost their defensive department. He would also do a job if Birmingham decided to hand him a contract as they eye a place in the top six under Chris Davies.
Another defensive player both teams could consider is Reece Oxford. He needs to get his career back on track after cutting ties with Augsburg in the Bundesliga. The ex-West Ham can play in midfield as well if needed as well as defence which would come in handy.
Attacking free agent options for Birmingham City and West Brom
Alex Pritchard had a brief stint at Birmingham back in 2024. He is now without a club after parting ways with Sivasspor in Turkey last month. Therefore, he could be worth a look by West Brom.
At the age of 32, he is vastly experienced and he would inject some more quality into the Baggies’ ranks. The ex-England youth international may want to return to England now after his time abroad. He has featured for teams like Tottenham Hotspur, Norwich City, Huddersfield Town and Sunderland and has played at the top level.
Malcolm Ebiowei was tipped for a bright future in the game as a youngster but he hasn’t been able to live up to the hype. Nevertheless, he could be a wildcard addition for either Birmingham or West Brom and is a talent they could both nurture. He signed for Crystal Palace as a teenager from Derby County but didn’t break into the first-team at Selhurst Park. At the age of 22, he is still young and has potential to develop down the line.
After signing him for Blackpool last year, Steve Bruce said: “We are delighted to welcome Malcolm and look forward to watching him in action. He possesses real ability and is a tricky player to come up against. He is the kind of player that will get our supporters off their seats, and we look forward to welcoming him into the group this week.”
