Tony Bellew says Sean Dyche did something 'unreal' at Everton that should never be forgotten

Sean Dyche isn’t the most popular figure among Everton supporters.

Sean Dyche’s tenure really soured towards the end, as he left Everton in another relegation battle before David Moyes took over in January 2025.

Dyche’s football was difficult to watch for some fans, as he often deployed a very defensive and pragmatic system.

Tony Bellew says what Sean Dyche did in 2023/24 was ‘unreal’

Speaking to The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Bellew heaped praise on Dyche for steering Everton away from relegation after the points deduction in the 2023/24 season.

“And I’ll tell you something, now what Sean Dyche did at Everton when we got deducted, those 10 points should never be overlooked,” Bellew stated.

“Because if it was to stay in the Premier League when those 10 points got deducted and they made an example of us, I don’t think any manager at that stage in the world could have got us out of trouble. It was unreal.”

Sean Dyche did get applauded when he returned to Everton

When Dyche returned to the Hill Dickinson Stadium in December, he actually received a pretty decent reception.

Some Toffees fans clapped Dyche as he made his way into the ground, although it wasn’t as ceremonious in the reverse fixture at the City Ground.

After Thierno Barry’s winning goal, some supporters chanted: “You’re getting sacked in the morning.”

So, quite clearly, there is a mixed feeling about Dyche, especially considering how much the team has improved under Moyes’ stewardship.
