One has to feel for McNeil, who seemingly had everything on track to join Palace last night.

But the Eagles reportedly ceased communication and did not complete their documents, whereas Everton did.

Apparently, Palace were ultimately looking for a loan with obligation, after Jean-Philippe Mateta’s move did not happen, before pulling the plug on McNeil.

Today, Idrissa Gueye has given his reaction to last night’s drama.

He told Sky Sports: “I’m very happy to have him back personally. Because Dwight is a great lad. He’s a quiet lad, but he works hard. He has a lot of quality and he was really important player for us the last few years when we were battling against relegation.

“Still now, he is an important player for us, what happened to him, hopefully he will just put it to the side and come back and we will be there to welcome him and to make him comfortable.

“He was really important, and he’s still important for us. Everyone’s important in this team. This is what it is. Now he just needs to put it on the side and work hard and show his quality.”

Everton need to rally round McNeil

It’s nice to see Gueye supporting McNeil in what is probably a tricky situation for him to be dealing with.

He was very clearly set on leaving and starting a new chapter, which would have been the right move for all parties.

As a result of Palace’s behaviour, he now has to reset.

What are you now expecting from Dwight McNeil for the remainder of the season? 😫

It will be important now for everyone at Everton to rally round him as he tries to put the setback behind him.

While he may not be in good form right now, he remains an experienced player and is someone Everton will definitely have on their books for the coming months. So since he’s going nowhere, it’s important to ensure that he’s given the chance to emerge from this as best he can.
