Who are Newcastle United's most valuable players following quiet January transfer window?

It was a quiet January transfer window for Newcastle United but they still boast some of the Premier League's most exciting players.

The January transfer window is over, and to say it was quiet for Newcastle United would be a huge understatement.

The Magpies didn’t sign a single player over the winter, despite juggling four competitions, a host of injury problems, and a poor Premier League campaign so far that has seen them slump to 11th in the table. Meanwhile, Jamaal Lascelles’ departure to Leicester City has been confirmed, while a number of youngsters and squad players left the club on loans and permanent transfers.

Of course, it’s not like Eddie Howe is short of quality. In fact, some of the Premier League's most exciting talents can be seen on display at St. James’ Park. But who are the most valuable players at Newcastle United right now?

It’ll probably come as no surprise to see that midfielders Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali are the most valuable players in Newcastle United’s squad right now, according to Transfermarkt. The former has been their top performer with goals and three assists on the board in 21 Premier League appearances so far this season, with another two assists coming in cup competitions. The latter, meanwhile, has been a little below his best this campaign, but is still a vital part of Howe’s squad, has serious pedigree with the Italian national team, and is entering his prime years at 25.

Attackers dominate the next stage of the list, with Nick Woltemade and Anthony Gordon behind the midfield duo, followed by Anthony Elanga. However, the Sweden international has registered just two assists and no goals since his big-money move from Nottingham Forest in the summer, and could see his value start to fall if he doesn’t improve soon. Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall and Lewis Miley all have respectable market values, but given their strong form and young age, they should see their prices rocket in the coming 18 months.

The bottom of the list is dominated by ageing defenders and goalkeepers, such as Dan Burn, Kieran Trippier and Fabian Schar, while 39-year-old John Ruddy has the lowest market value in the Newcastle squad at just €100k.
