Manchester United star‘willing’to agree to 120k-a-week contract after Michael Carrick praise

Manchester United has entered contract negotiations with star player who is prepared to take durastic step to meet the club’s compromise.

INEOS’ intervention into Manchester United has meant an abundance of changes, led by the spokesman and CEO Jim Ratcliffe.

From increased ticket prices and a cut in the number of staff at the club, to the offloading of several expensive, unused players, the club looks very different from the takeover.

One implementation INEOS has made is the wage cap, meaning no new contract with a wage in excess of £200,000.

Meaning that players like Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes are in jeopardy of taking a pay cut or departing the club, as in the case of Casemiro. However, one specific Red is prepared to meet the club’s needs in order to secure his future.

Maguire set to take pay cut

One player affected by the club’s desire to cut wages is seven-year veteran Harry Maguire. A player out of contract at the end of this season, but has expressed his desire to stay at United.

Reports suggest his influence both on and off the pitch is imperative, being named in Ruben Amorim’s leadership group before his departure, and formerly captaining the club before handing the baton to Fernandes.

The Peoples Person has identified that the United centre-back is willing to take a ‘major pay cut’, Maguire is currently on £180,000 a week and thriving under new boss Michael Carrick, who has praised Maguire.

The report suggests the 33-year-old is willing to take a 40% pay cut, meaning his new wage would be £120,000 a week, a steep drop off from his former wage.

There is no mention of the length of this potential contract. If these proposed negotiations are true, it points to the nobility of Maguire’s character, and would likely lead to a decrease in his impact on pitch.

Heaven and Yoro to have increased impact

Maguire’s step back from his senior commitments means a pathway is provided to younger players such as Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven.

Heaven came into form towards the end of Amorim’s tenure, playing an imperative role in the final three games before the former manager left. His impact since joining from Arsenal for £1 million has been limited but influential.

Yoro follows suit; the French centre-back arrived from Rennes for a fee in excess of £65 million, and was expected to make an immediate impact.

His influence on the first team has been to a decent standard, but Yoro has struggled to knock Mathijs de Ligt or Lisandro Martinez from their place in the first team.

Maguire’s lessened influence on the first team will benefit Yoro and Heaven, but these players need to take their opportunities and cement their places in the starting eleven.
