Rio Ferdinand has hailed one of Manchester United’s summer signings, and it’s not who you would expect.

Manchester United had a much busier summer transfer window than the recent January window, as they failed to sign anyone over the winter. But, in the summer, United managed to sign the likes of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who have helped to transform their attack.

However, the Red Devils also signed striker Benjamin Sesko and goalkeeper Senne Lammens in the summer, both of whom have really impressed too.

Ferdinand hails ‘first-class’ signing Benjamin Sesko

At the weekend, the star of the show for Man United was striker Benjamin Sesko, who scored a late winning goal against Fulham in a 3-2 victory, which was United’s third win in a row under Carrick.

It was Sesko’s fifth goal of the season since he joined from RB Leipzig for £73 m. The 22-year-old is beginning to settle at Old Trafford and hopes his goal against Fulham can kickstart his form under Carrick.

Former Man United captain Rio Ferdinand hailed Sesko recently, based on what he’s seen of him in training and behind the scenes. He said the 22-year-old has been nothing but ‘first-class’ since joining the club. Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel: “What I would say about him from people on the training ground is his attitude is first class.

“He’s in every day, early, ready to prepare for training, ready to do the extras before training, getting his body right, to make sure that he’s ready to go out there and give his best every day in training; no stone is left unturned. And they say, especially for a young kid, his mindset and his attitude have been first class.”

Sesko says his goal vs Fulham was ‘emotional’

The striker hasn’t had the greatest run of games in recent weeks, as Carrick has preferred Bryan Mbeumo as a false nine instead of him. However, the Slovenian international will hope his goal against Fulham shows Carrick that he can be trusted in the number nine role.

He spoke to MUTV after the game, and said that it was an emotional moment for him: “When I scored, I just didn't know what was going on. But yeah, what a moment. Amazing time to score it. It was emotional. It was amazing, it feels like a pleasure, helping the team, helping the fans and the club to secure the win.”

Sesko has a pedigree for putting up fantastic goal-scoring numbers. Just last season, he managed to net 21 goals in 45 games in all competitions for RB Leipzig, and that was just at the age of 21. In a couple of years, Sesko could be a world-class number nine for the Red Devils.
