Manchester United decided against making any first-team signings with the January transfer window now shut. But interim manager Michael Carrick has secured victory in his opening three matches of this spell.

Following a summer that saw them bring in players like Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, United chose not to spend during the winter window. These acquisitions were made for head coach Ruben Amorim, but he was dismissed in January after a 14-month period at the club.

Carrick has taken over as interim manager and following victories against Manchester City and Arsenal, his team secured a dramatic 3-2 triumph over Fulham to maintain a perfect record of three wins from three. Meanwhile, loanee Marcus Rashford continues to impress at Barcelona, with reports suggesting a decision has been reached about his future.

The England forward has suffered a setback off the pitch, however, with a United legend overlooking the 28-year-old. The Manchester Evening News delivers the latest developments from Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford overlooked

Rashford moved to Barcelona over the summer and has made a considerable impression under Hansi Flick during that period. He has netted 10 goals across all competitions.

Despite such a productive loan spell, United legend Nani still believes Rashford doesn't measure up to one of his Blaugrana team-mates, Lamine Yamal. In a video posted on social media for Goal, Nani was asked to compare some of Europe's leading attackers.

Initially, the Portuguese icon was asked to choose between Barcelona's Yamal and Chelsea prospect Estevao. He selected the former. Next, Rashford and Bukayo Saka were presented to Nani for his judgement. He picked Rashford before making several other choices.

In the following round, it was Rashford alongside team-mate Yamal who were compared. At this point, Nani overlooked the United loanee and said: "Right now? Lamine Yamal." To be fair to Rashford, the 39-year-old went on to select Yamal as his top choice from all the players he was asked about, adding: "He's my type of player."

Casemiro U-turn blocked

In January, Rashford's team-mate at his parent club Casemiro was the subject of a stark announcement. It was confirmed the Brazilian is set to leave at the end of the season when his contract expires.

A farewell video was released last month with United making it abundantly clear that the 33-year-old will not stay at the club beyond the summer. However, the Brazilian has performed well in his recent matches.

Under Carrick, Casemiro has appeared confident in midfield and secured a goal and an assist in the victory against Fulham. Supporters have urged United to reverse their decision to let Casemiro go, but Sky Sports reports they will not be changing their stance.

The report suggests that whilst supporters are questioning why United are allowing the Brazilian to depart, he remains one of the club's highest-paid players, will shortly turn 34 and United have established a long-term strategy for their midfield.

All of these factors, they claim, contribute to the club's resolute position preventing any kind of reversal regarding Casemiro and the player staying at Old Trafford.
