Chemsdine Talbi scored Sunderland’s third goal against Burnley and insisted the club must keep aiming higher this season
Sunderland winger Chemsdine Talbi insisted the Black Cats must keep aiming higher after scoring in their emphatic 3-0 victory over Burnley at the Stadium of Light.
Talbi capped a memorable night on Wearside by netting Sunderland’s third goal, his first at the Stadium of Light, before speaking openly about the club’s ambition, the supporters and the impact of head coach Régis Le Bris. The winger admitted he was immediately struck by the atmosphere inside the ground after arriving at the club and believes the supporters continue to play a key role in Sunderland’s strong home form.
“From the first game I was here, it was a crazy atmosphere. Before I came to Sunderland, I was looking at the fans and heard a lot of good things about them. The first game, I fell in love with this stadium. So I'm really pleased with that, and they need to continue like this because they help us a lot to get the three points home. So yeah, really pleased.”
Talbi also revealed that, while his own knowledge of Sunderland had been limited before signing, the club’s history and fanbase have quickly left a deep impression. “I didn't know a lot of Sunderland. My father did well because he's a little bit older. So he knows the history of the club, but now I know all the history. And we feel that when we come in this stadium, it’s crazy fans.”
With Sunderland continuing to exceed expectations on their return to the Premier League, Talbi made it clear there is no desire within the squad to settle for what has already been achieved. “I don't know where we can finish, but we will for sure give everything to finish at the top.

“We will not end now, we’re not thinking, ‘this is enough’. It’s not enough. We need to go full to reach the top, and we need to dream about the Champions League, Europa League. So we have the ability to do it, the squad also, so we will go 100 per cent for that.”
Talbi also spoke warmly about working under Le Bris, highlighting the Frenchman’s tactical detail and understanding of the Premier League. “Yeah, he is a great coach. He feels the tactics. I don't know how he did it, but I will never be a coach because it’s too much thinking. But we have a great coach, he knows everything about the Premier League, so really pleased with that.”
