Leeds United negotiations for out of window transfer – Would be this week

Beşiktaş have already come forward to sign Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

The winter window in the UK closed on Monday while the Turkish one is open until Friday. This allows the Black Eagles to sign the Frenchman within 72 hours.

Two days ago, Sabah reported the Istanbul club have made an approach to sign the Leeds United player.

On Tuesday, journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu explained Beşiktaş have approached both Daniel Farke’s side and the 25-year-old’s agent. The contact with the Whites was to explore the conditions needed to take him away from Elland Road.

Wednesday’s edition of Sabah covers the latest on the Turkish club’s pursuit of Meslier.

The newspaper makes it clear Chelsea stopper Filip Jörgensen has been their main target. The Blues, however, refused to sanction a move, forcing them to look at other options.

Beşiktaş initially wanted to sign Meslier’s Leeds United teammate, Lucas Perri, but the English club refused to let the latter leave. The situation has seen them work on a deal for the former FC Lorient man.

Farke hasn’t utilised Meslier this season and has left him out of the squad for over two months. The Süper Lig side want to open their door this week and are negotiating a rapid deal to sign him before Friday’s deadline.

Leeds United contract situation key

The French stopper has less than six months left on his contract. According to the report, the Black Eagles are discussing terms with both Leeds United and his representatives.

Sabah claim Beşiktaş are now ‘eagerly awaiting news from England’. This would indicate that neither the Premier League side nor Meslier have given their approval so far.

A move to Turkey could see the goalkeeper enjoy minutes as his situation at Leeds United is unlikely to change.
