On deadline day, it emerged that Nottingham Forest had failed in a move for Fiorentina’s Robin Gosens.
Gianluca Di Marzio spoke of the player’s insistence to stay at the Florence club. Sean Dyche’s side made an important offer for the German but didn’t get their way.
Fiorentina have struggled in Serie A this season. That is not something Gosens is used to, having competed in the higher reaches of Italy at Inter and Atalanta.
Now, his decision to reject Nottingham Forest is gaining praise in the Italian press.
Corriere dello Sport describe the 31-year-old as one of ‘those who say no’. They compare his act to Vasco Rossi’s 1987 album which was also called ‘there are those who say no’ and turned out to be a classic.
The newspaper note his commitment to Fiorentina, even if the club could’ve considered his exit. Despite La Viola’s struggles, he feels an attachment towards them and wants to drive them up the table.
‘Matter of the heart’ for Nottingham Forest player
It is believed that Gosens, David De Gea, Dodo and Rolando Mandragora have made a pact about keeping the club in Serie A. The German didn’t want to break it as he now also feels an emotional connection with the club.
Even in the past, he could have returned to Atalanta in the summer. Even then – despite obvious fitness issues, he decided to stay. His commitment is hailed once again, now that Nottingham Forest have been rejected.
His actions have been put forward as a ‘matter of the heart’, as Fiorentina remain one point from safety.
