Ruben Amorim has revealed his true feelings towards Michael Carrick, with the dismissed Manchester United manager choosing to keep quiet about his Old Trafford experience until the campaign concludes.

Following the 1-1 stalemate with Leeds United in early January, United opted to dismiss Amorim, with Carrick stepping in as caretaker boss several weeks afterwards. Since his exit, the 41-year-old has appeared considerably more relaxed when spotted strolling through Manchester's streets alongside his wife.

Footage also captured him offering good wishes to attending reporters, though those expecting official remarks about his turbulent United spell face a considerable wait.

While sacked managers typically release statements extending goodwill messages shortly after departing, a well-connected source in Portugal has informed the Daily Mail that Amorim plans to remain silent until the season's end before discussing how swiftly matters deteriorated during his United reign.

The report suggests Amorim's reasoning for this postponement stems from his reluctance to unsettle United's remaining fixtures under Carrick's guidance, reports the Manchester Evening News.

United's temporary chief will undoubtedly welcome such consideration as he strives to steer the club back towards Champions League qualification. During his concluding press briefing, Amorim delivered a scathing outburst that referenced several previous United bosses.

When questioned about whether he had backing from the board, Amorim declared: "Guys, to stop with that, and I noticed that you received selective information about everything. I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not to be the coach of Manchester United. That is clear.

"I know that my name is not Tuchel, is not Conte, is not Mourinho, but I'm the manager of Manchester United. It's going to be like this for 18 months or when the board decided to change. That was my point. I want to finish with that. I'm not going to quit. I will do my job until other guy is coming here to replace me.

"I just want to say that I'm going to be the manager of this team, not just the coach. I was really clear on that. That is going to finish in 18 months, and then everyone is going to move on.

"That was the deal. That is my job, not to be a coach. If people cannot handle the Gary Nevilles and the criticises of everything, we need to change the club.

"Every department, the scouting department, the sport director needs to do their job. I will do mine for 18 months and then we move on. Thank you, guys."

Carrick has enjoyed a brilliant beginning to his tenure in the dugout, with triumphs over Arsenal and Manchester City capped off by a thrilling comeback victory against Fulham this past weekend. United's recent run of form, securing maximum points from their last three matches, has propelled them to fourth place in the Premier League table.

This success has led to speculation about Carrick potentially becoming Amorim's permanent successor. Prior to the victory at Arsenal, he stated: "It's been about a week now, but nothing is clear yet."

My first thought is about what is happening right now. What's important to me is that any decisions I or the staff make are not short-term.

"I have a responsibility for what will come next. I need to make the right decisions. Over time, we will gradually resolve this issue."

As Amorim breaks his silence, a final decision on the club's next permanent manager is anticipated, with Unai Emery, Oliver Glasner, Roberto De Zerbi and Carrick himself among the names being mentioned.
