Michael Carrick has had a dream start to life at Manchester United, but Diogo Dalot is a huge fan of another hire who is bringing all the right energy to the club.

Three games, three wins, including two against the two best teams in the country, have so far turned Michael Carrick into the saviour of Man Utd’s season.

Ineos’ decision to hire him instead of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wasn’t the most popular one, but he has turned the narrative around rapidly.

Diogo Dalot singles out Steve Holland’s impact at Man Utd

A key reason why Carrick’s spell at Middlesbrough ended in his sacking had a lot to do with a lack of experience behind the scenes in his staff.

In that job, Carrick had chosen his brother Graeme to be a part of his staff, a stance that Man Utd didn’t sanction this time.

Instead, a seasoned professional like Steve Holland came in as the “steady hand” on the staff, and his impact has been immediate.

Harry Maguire called him ‘magnificent’ before Carrick had taken charge of a single game, and United’s defensive displays since his hiring lent further credence to that claim.

Recently, Dalot was asked about the staff Carrick has around him, including Jonathan Woodgate, Jonny Evans, Steve Holland, and Travis Binnion.

He singled out Holland’s impact in particular, praising him for bringing the right energy to the group.

He said [via Inside Carrington podcast] – “Steve was in this position a lot of times during his coaching career. So he knew what to say. He knew the right energy to pass to the players.

“So I think the club, and Michael, did really well to bring them in.”

Holland must become a Man Utd hire instead of a manager one

Holland’s impact at United and his spell at Chelsea under multiple managers speak of a professional who should be a mainstay of the staff.

There are some people whom the club appoints to maintain continuity within the group, since the managerial upheaval is often accompanied by the whole staff changing.

In such a time, a glue guy like Holland, with his immense credentials, should become the “United hire,” by staying under whoever the next permanent manager is.

Not only will that provide a bridge to the next regime, if there is one (Carrick permanent, anyone?), but it will also help the players stay in touch with a staff member whose way of working resonates with them.

Ultimately, it all comes down to results, and Holland is making a great case for himself based on the first three games alone.
