Premier League make controversial announcement for Everton vs Fulham

Everton return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon as they take on Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Everton picked up a late point against Brighton last time out, with Beto netting a 97th-minute equaliser on the South Coast.

Heading into Saturday’s clash, the Toffees will be strengthened by the arrival of Tyrique George, who joined from Chelsea on transfer deadline day.

George could be in line to make his debut in the capital, and interestingly, his only Premier League goal actually came against Fulham last season.

Ahead of the game, the Premier League have just made a controversial announcement which may not please David Moyes.

David Moyes has surely got to throw George straight in from the start vs Fulham, hasn’t he!? 🤔

Premier League appoints Stuart Attwell to referee Everton vs Fulham

The Premier League have announced that Stuart Attwell will be the referee for Everton’s trip to Fulham this weekend.

Referee: Stuart Attwell

Assistants: Constantine Hatzidakis, Alex James

Fourth official: Lewis Smith

VAR: Tony Harrington

Assistant VAR: Dan Robathan

That may frustrate Everton, because Attwell was on VAR when Jake O’Brien’s goal against Tottenham was controversially ruled out earlier this season.

The Toffees also wrote to the PGMOL about Attwell back in 2022, as Frank Lampard was furious his side didn’t get a penalty in the Merseyside Derby defeat to Liverpool.

Stuart Attwell’s record with Everton

Attwell has taken charge of 31 Everton games across his career, with his first dating back to October 2009, when the Toffees drew 1-1 against Wolves at Goodison Park.

His last came in the 2-0 win against Brighton and Albion earlier this season, which was the first Premier League game at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Interestingly, Everton have a very mixed record with Attwell as the referee, as they’ve won as many games as they’ve lost.

The referee has never awarded a penalty across his 31 games with the Merseysiders.
