Everton handed summer optimism as £15m target was open to last-gasp deadline day move - insider

Everton are going to have a lot of work to do again in the summer transfer window.

Everyone knows by now that clubs find the January market a really tricky window to get their business done in.

David Moyes was never optimistic about Everton’s winter market as he suggested it was unlikely a player would even be signed.

That almost proved to be the case as Everton left it extremely late to confirm the signing of Tyrique George on an initial loan.

Everton’s lack of business was not through a lack of effort, though.

Everton made a late approach for Fulham’s Harry Wilson, with the winger playing in the final months of his deal at Craven Cottage.

The Wales international has been in scintillating form this season and naturally has attracted the attention of clubs across the league.

How would you feel about a move for Harry Wilson? 👀

Everton are showing an interest…

In discussion with A View From The Bullens on their Patreon account, one respected club insider shared Wilson’s stance on a possible move to Everton.

“Everton really like him and David Moyes is a big fan. We just weren’t willing to meet Fulham’s demands of £15m for a player that has six months left on his deal,” he said.

“Everton had a rough guide of around £8m.”

“I was also led to believe that Harry Wilson would have been open to talking to Everton. I was led to believe that he was open to joining Everton; his family live up in the north west and he would have been open to it.”

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson thinks Wilson may already have his next club lined up, with his contract now in its final months.

Everton fans will be hoping there is potential for a deal in the summer as the forward has been sensational this season.

Everton should hold optimism over summer move for Wilson

Openness to discuss a possible move to Everton should offer a glimmer of hope ahead of the summer window.

What must be considered is that Wilson is going to have a lot of suitors come the next window given the way he is playing in London.

Fulham want to hand Wilson a new contract before then to end the speculation over his long-term future.

Whether the player would be open to that remains to be seen after he was reportedly open to leaving on Monday.

The only concern some may now have is what possible wage demands he may have if he does become a free agent.
