Alejandro Garnacho is being ridiculed by Manchester United fans after a thinly-veiled dig at his former club backfired in Chelsea's defeat to Arsenal. Garnacho, 21, left United to join the Blues in a £40million transfer last summer, but he's struggled to find his feet at Stamford Bridge.

The winger had been put in United's 'bomb squad' after taking aim at the ex-Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim after last season's Europa League final. Few United supporters were sad to see Garnacho go when he eventually got his wish of a move to Chelsea.

On Wednesday, the Argentina international hoped to help his new team come from behind on aggregate to beat Arsenal in their Carabao Cup semi-final. Ahead of the game, Garnacho used United's recent victory at the Emirates as evidence to suggest that Chelsea could win 'perfectly'.

"Everyone knows how hard it is to play there," Garnacho told club media. "When we lost the first game, I saw a lot of people saying, 'Yeah, but no one won yet at the Emirates'.

"But now I think the view is a little bit different. If, for example, Manchester United can beat them there, we can do it perfectly."

Chelsea didn't even manage to draw the second leg, as a late goal from Kai Havertz sealed a 4-2 win for Arsenal on aggregate. On social media, fans quickly took the opportunity to bash Garnacho.

"How did that work out for you?" one United supporter cheekily asked. "Didn't age well," another wrote. "Who does he think he is?" a third posted on X.

A fan also suggested that Garancho's comment was typical of his character, saying: "Interesting comment to make when you've just lost to them at home a couple of weeks earlier. That's Garnacho for you."

Chelsea travel to bottom-of-the-table Wolves on Saturday and manager Liam Rosenior believes that he saw 'encouraging signs' from their display at the Emirates, despite the loss. "The spirit, the togetherness, the fight in the team was there," Rosenior concluded.

"Now I need to see what we look like after a setback. We need to react positively. We have a difficult game away in Wolves on Saturday and I need to see what our reaction is to that.”
