‘Won’t speak too much about…’ – Daniel Farke makes honest Leeds United deadline day admission

Leeds United

Despite their huge loss to Arsenal over the weekend, Leeds United are still above the relegation zone. But things can change quickly in the Premier League, with West Ham gaining ground over the last week.

Farke’s men have an important game on Friday night, as they face relegation rivals Nottingham Forest. The mood around the club has been very mixed as once again, there was not activity in the transfer market on deadline day. Leeds only made on loan signing in Facundo Buonanotte.

Plans to add a marquee name in Jorgen Strand Larsen failed, after Wolves wanted the transfer fee up front for the Norwegian international. The Whites could only offer a loan deal with an obligation to buy at the end of the season due to PSR.

Daniel Farke speaks on Leeds United transfer window

Leeds United will have to pick themselves up ahead of their clash with Nottingham Forest on Friday night. Sean Dyche’s side are unbeaten in their last four league games, with important results against Arsenal and West Ham. Daniel Farke had the chance to speak on transfer business before the game, but failed to go in depth on what had already happened:

”Won’t speak too much about thoughts I have shared with the board or what I’d have liked, it would make no sense to give my group confidence.

”My understanding of my role is to serve, not like the club has to serve me or make my life easy.

”Would prefer unlimited resources to sign any player, but for me, it’s important we are all together.

”Key people need to be on the same page, discuss options, and it has to be a bit controversial sometimes. I’m here to back the club and to make the best out of what I’ve got.”

49ers took a huge gamble

The whole January transfer window was a risk for the Whites; adding only one attacking player was underwhelming considering the quality in the team. Depth wise, the 49ers decision could also backfire. We have already seen how thin the squad depth in the team is in the defence and attack with a few players out.

Leeds will now have to hope players like Lukas Nmecha and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are able to maintain their fitness throughout the campaign. The lack of defensive cover at center back and left back was also a bit baffling, but the season has to end before a conclusion can be made. For now, Leeds are walking a serious tightrope.
