Ruben Amorim was sacked as Manchester United head coach at the beginning of January. The decision has led to plenty of debate among fans.
A month has passed since Ruben Amorim was dismissed.
Amorim’s successor, Michael Carrick, has enjoyed three wins from as many games since being appointed Manchester United head coach until the end of the season.
Carrick’s run started when United beat Man City 2-0 and led to wins over Arsenal and Fulham in the Premier League.

The ongoing win streak has inevitably raised further questions over Amorim’s reign at Old Trafford.
Carrick has already matched Amorim’s longest winning run as head coach, which is a pretty damning statistic for the former Sporting CP coach.

In terms of results, it’s hard to see many positives. United finished 15th in the Premier League last season and lost the Europa League final against Tottenham.
None of that shines Amorim in a positive light, but some fans remain complimentary of the 40-year-old and his efforts at the club.

Fill in the blank. Did Amorim lay the foundation for success at Old Trafford?

One fan wrote: “80% praise for what he put together at Man United.”
Another fan was more critical of Amorim, especially for overlooking Kobbie Mainoo in midfield, writing: “How on earth can Amorim get any credit at all since his dropped points have cost us hugely. Not only cost us Europe and cups and a chance to challenge this year, but nearly Mainoo and others.”
United In Focus reporter Sean Fisher wrote: “It’s easy to jump and criticise Amorim now we are winning matches, but I truly believe his legacy will be remembered more off-the-pitch… the ‘bomb squad’ tactic in the summer was controversial and financially costly, but it did help to complete a much-needed clear out! The players never gave up on him, and that is a credit to the atmosphere he created.”
Amorim was also praised for getting rid of Marcus Rashford: “90%, Removed the dead wood and negative stuff like Rashford and co.”
It was also suggested by a reader that Amorim should have been sacked earlier this season, with another TalkingPoints user writing: “He should have been sacked when we lost to Grimsby or to 10 men Everton….”
Finally, it was argued that Amorim was too stubborn to change his system, even though he had the players available to get better results: “He had the players at his disposal and only needed a tweak to change his system, but Amorim was too stubborn to do so. Carrick is now getting the rewards by changing that system and playing Marino alongside Casemiro with Fernandes further forward. Amorim could have done this, but his stubbornness got him the sack.”
Ineos’ next decision at Man Utd is crucial
Over the coming months, football director Jason Wilcox will decide who should become the next head coach.
Carrick was appointed head coach until the end of the season and could make a case for the job beyond the current campaign, if United can keep winning matches and secure Champions League qualification.
Wilcox received criticism for appointing Amorim, but his next decision will be crucial for United’s future.
All eyes will be on United at the end of the season to see what direction they take.
