Former Nottingham Forest sporting director Filippo Giraldi has admitted his pleasure at seeing Robin Gosens turn them down.
Firenze Viola cover comments from him today. He was speaking on Radio Firenze Viola about Fiorentina’s transfer business following the end of the winter window.
Gosens ended up being a major player in that. He found himself being targeted by Nottingham Forest late on as they sought a new left-back. A deal could not be done, with Forest signing Luca Netz instead.
Reports in Italy then explained why the deal for Gosens didn’t happen. The crux of the matter was that Gosens wanted to stay where he was and get Fiorentina out of trouble. They’re currently 18th in Serie A, but only a point from safety. He wants to stay and get them safe, at the least.
That’s a stance that’s been widely appreciated in Italy. Indeed, the 31-year-old was the subject of widespread prise today. Giraldi is one of those who appreciated Gosen’s decision, even if I negatively impacted his former club, Nottingham Forest.
“The January transfer window isn’t easy, and it gets even more complicated when you’re in a league table situation like Fiorentina’s,” he said.
“I appreciated that Gosens, in a world where so many are attracted by the Premier League or the money and interest of the league, decided to stay to help Fiorentina, regardless of how much of an impact he could have had.”
